The Ultrasound

Last Tuesday (7/21), the family and I went to the OB for our ultrasound. Kate was super excited! We took her 5 year old cousin Emily with us, my mom, Jeremy’s mom and her husband (Pap Kevin). I have another ultrasound in September if anyone wants to make the long trek to go with me.

After the sonographer got the baby on the screen she turned the sound on so we could hear the baby’s heartbeat. Then we found out if it was a boy or a girl. In case you hadn’t heard, we’re having a boy! Everyone was so excited. I was hoping for a boy and Kate had told us that she wanted a baby brother, but Jeremy was very content with whatever we were blessed with so he didn’t show much visible excitement.
Kate was interested in the whole thing for the first 3-4 minutes and then she was interested in other things: the posters on the wall, the light switches, the chair, etc. Can’t really blame her – I have enough trouble distinguishing features on the ultrasound – it must’ve looked like a snowy TV screen to her. Anyway, he [the baby] wouldn’t cooperate so we still need to see 2 views of his heart to make sure everything is ok. Everything looks fine, the sonographer couldn’t check off the right views of his heart b/c she couldn’t see them.
We had been asking Kate about baby names prior to the ultrasound and had be given a different answer every time, but it seems that after the ultrasound she had made a connection with the baby and in her mind the name has been set. Due to some requests – I will not be sharing the name in my blog or future emails unless you email or call.

I’m ready to get all Kate’s baby stuff down and wash it up. I want to get my swing and pack-n-play down to see what kind of shape they’re in – I’m sure they’re in good shape, but they’ve been stored on the attic for a year and a half so they’re probably dusty. I’m itching to get the crib down, add an extra dresser, organize the closet and figure out the best way to arrange their room. BUT, I know it’s too soon! October is probably a good time to start, but I want to do it now. I want to know what we’ve got to store, and what we still need. I’ve been spending my free time looking at new baby stuff online. We’ve picked up some items at yard sales this summer. Our big baby items were all neutral as far as gender goes, but all of the clothes that I saved were pink or purple or girly. Amber asked if she should throw me a shower for this baby and my original response was probably not because it’s my 2nd child, but after looking at all the clothes that I need to get and some things that have broken or that I had borrowed the first time around – I’m reconsidering my answer. What do you think? Is it okay to have a baby shower the 2nd time around?

  1. Thanks for not sharing the name; I know that was for me ;) I'm sure it's very cute! I'm glad the family is excited!
Also--I think it's totally OK to have a shower--I mean it's a BOY and before you had a girl-- so there will be some different needs.
Why is too early to set up and organize? They way I see it is if you're in the mood go for it! The cleaning and organizing moods are fleeting (at least to me!) and maybe later on you'll be tired. I don't know. But I say if you have the time and want to get it ready, whatever floats your boat :)
Lastly--I didn't know you went to Capital Women's Care. What city? Who's your Dr? I get referred bunches of patients from there--but mostly from the Frederick, Germantown, Gaithersburg, and Rockville offices. They certainly do have a bunch of locations!!

  2. Have a shower if you want, but I bet people will give you lots of presents anyway, even if you don't!
