Ok, so you know the song, You are the sunshine of my life, by Stevie Wonder? That is a pretty good description of how I feel about my daughter Kate. If she's not there to greet me with a big hug when I get home, nothing seems right. From time to time I complain that I can't get the dishes done or keep up with the house work, but spending time with her in the evenings is way more important than any of those things. She loves to, "Help Mommy". This is usually way more fun for her than it is for me. I tend to be impatient when she's helping as it usually prevents or delays the task at hand. She helps with the dishes (more like continually fills and empties one cup), vacuums the floor (although she isn't strong enough to hold up the vacuum - Note: she has her very own Kate size vacuum, thanks to Aunt Kelly and Uncle Eric, but she realizes, that it's not the real thing so it doesn’t satisfy her need to help). Even though I get chores done easier and faster when she doesn’t help, it’s an opportunity for her to learn and me to teach , and for her to teach me…patience.Last night while we were watching Fireproof during the Youth Service her and her BFF Emily we're in the back of the fellowship hall giggling and belly laughing. Kate's belly laugh, it is extremely uplifting and contagious (I'll try to record it sometime). She LOVES music. She is very interested in trying to play my saxophone. She hasn't figured out how to even make it squeak, but I'm confident that she will eventually. The guitar on the other hand is much easier for her as you can see from the picture. She likes to sit with Jeremy and strum his guitar. She has started to sing along. She sings along the best she can, kinda like someone singing a song they don’t know all the words to, hitting the right word here and there will humming the words they don’t know, well like I do in the car. She especially likes songs from Choo Choo Soul (it's a short series on Playhouse Disney) and You've Got A Friend In Me (which is completely adoreable) from Toy Story (Her Favorite Movie).

We've also started bi-weekly trips to the library. Who knew that toddlers could be that interested in books? She is currently reading about Zookeeper Sue, she wanted a book about tigers or lions and her Daddy picked out Captain Underpants to read to her, although I don't think he's gotten very far because it’s a longer book and she starts to lose interest.
Tonight should be fun, I think we're going to practice with the church band, which will no doubt see her and her BFF running around the sanctuary!

Awesome :) Ryan & I loved the movie Fireproof, what did you think? If Kate likes tigers--I have two "minature tigers" that live with me- maybe she can visit sometime. :)
ReplyDeleteI always mean to send you the ABC songs that I think Kate will love, and will most likely drive you crazy. Next time I'm at my parents, I will have Tim burn a copy and send it your way complete with lyrics.
ReplyDeleteI love Captain Underpants! They are sooo funny and clever!
