So, I was asked to chaperone for our Youth Group when they head to the Annual Youth Convention this weekend. It's in Woodbridge at the Hylton Memorial Chapel. I am extremely excited about this. There are going to be some great bands and great speakers. The Afters (http://www.myspace.com/theafters) and Steve Fee (http://www.myspace.com/stevefee) are going to be there. You should check out some of their music.
I'm also very nervous. Will I be a pushover or too strict? Would I allow things that seem okay to me, but may not to other chaperones? For instance, it's a youth event and to keep all those hormones in check, the boys and girls are generally not permitted to ride in the same vehicle (separate vans for boys and girls). I mean how can you keep track of 15-20 sets of hands in a passenger van? Would I have considered that?
Also, I've never considered myself to be one of the "cool" people. I've always felt like I was just outside of the circle. You need to have that kind of personality to fit in with the youth. As Friday draws nearer, my butterflies get worse. I guess God feels like I can handle it. Either that, or I'm one of the people that he chooses for their weakness, so that His glory may shine through. Please pray for me!

You will do just fine! I'm not a fan of the bigger kids either...they scare me. I know you will be "cool" enough and if not you need to teach them what cool really is!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE bigger kids, and lots of little ones overwhelm me--but one or two are OK :) Funny just today Ryan and I were asked to chaperone the junior and senior high youth church retreat. They're going to Middleburg, VA (west of Fairfax co) May 15th-17th. It's the weekend after we move, and the weekend before Jordan's wedding. I can't decide! They're going tubeing AND doing a high ropes course--fun.
